Bar Coded Label Development

DGP will work with you and your clients to develop customised bar coded labels and study forms for your individual project needs. We offer solutions in a range of label sizes and formats to best fit the requirements of your project. Customer specific barcode systems can be created by using randomised numbers/letters or by using pre-assigned numbers and letters generated from your data management process.

In recent projects, DGP developed bar coded labels specific to the brucellosis testing requirements of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the BSE testing requirements of The Laboratory of the Government Chemists (LGC) and their clients. Samples were required to be sent from the dairies and abattoirs direct to the laboratory for testing. All samples were to be submitted in pots individually labelled, with unique barcodes. This requirement was essential so that tracking of the sample throughout the testing process could be done. Sample numbers had to be globally unique i.e. unique across all dairies/abattoirs, and could not be re-issued. This was to ensure that it could not be possible for more than one sample to have the same barcode. After discussing these project needs, a split label with pre-determined bar code numbers was developed. The larger size part of the bar coded label was to be affixed to the sample container and the smaller duplicate part attached to the animal’s movement card. The barcode system for this project was created by using a combination of dairy/abattoir licence numbers; sequential numbers; and letters to indicate whether data had been captured electronically or manually.

DGP also has the expertise to review your current bar code systems to ensure the most efficient processes are currently in place.

As part of our kit building service, DGP also provides the primary containers with patient specific or pre-assigned bar code labels. For further information on this service please see our Kit Building section of this website.
